[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by mohalen and mohalen, Molsan. Molsan said: New Post: Molsan Method Podcast – Episode 81 – Great Loot Distribution Expectations http://bit.ly/cuuiPz [...]
Thumbs up, Molsan. The biggest thing, like you said, is establishing the expectations from the get go and not just expecting it all to work itself out during the raid. I think it’s something that many groups in larger guilds might not think about until it’s too late. Yeah, sometimes a group is lucky and has people like yourself who will let it go just to preserve the fun of the run, but I have to think that more people than not would make a stink about it on the spot.
As a former raid leader and master looter… person (or whatever), dealing with loot can be time-consuming and stressful. You want do make sure that, at the end of the raid, everyone has had a fair chance at items, and loot/upgrades have been distributed evenly… in a way that ultimately benefits the raid group or guild as a whole.
If you want to do it right, you do need to study itemization, and be aware of what gear helps certain classes more than others. Leaving it up to the individual player can cause problems within the group.
The biggest issue I’ve seen in the past is when there are rules regarding loot distribution that either aren’t clearly explained, or modified on the fly. The group will ultimately die a slow death because loot is the primary reason that people raid.
